I was born and raised in the Flathead Valley of northwestern Montana. After spending over 5 years leading a progressive rock group in the area I moved to Eugene and enrolled as a music student at the University of Oregon. While in Eugene, I organized another band under the title of Cyrus Grape. It is with this band that I began to hone my compositional technique, fusing the symphonic world with that of progressive rock and jazz. The orchestrated settings ranged from a trio comprised of guitar, keys and drums to the much larger setting of two cellos, violin, double bass, keys/piano, guitar, and drums. My influences span many genres and include composers such as Rimsky-Korsokov, Prokoviev, Bartok, Zappa, Piazzolla and Miles Davis, as well as collaborative composers such as Pink Floyd and Radiohead. I received Bachelors of the Arts degrees in both Music and Religious Studies in 2004. I subsidize my musical ventures with the income I earn from working as a trail crew member in the summer as well as teaching private guitar lessons. I have spent a great deal of time in the wilderness areas of Montana, Oregon, Idaho, Washington and Alaska. Music and wilderness are my greatest loves in life. ----Nathaniel Bech: guitarist, composer, orchestrator
